FOSTEr in MED in Lebanon launches the pilot project on Building Integrated Photovoltaic at Lebanese University Campus in Hadat, Beirut

On the  7th of June in Beirut, under the patronage of HE the Minister of Industry and the presence of the Minister of Energy and Water, the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) partner of  FOSTEr in MED project celebrates the launch of  a innovative Building Integrated Photovoltaic plant at the Lebanese University Campus.

The pilot has been realized in the framework of FOSTEr in MED project funded by European Union through ENPI CBC MED Programme, whose aim is to promote the use of solar innovative technologies in the Mediterranean.
“We have been working in close collaboration with the management office of the project in Cagliari during all the phases of the project, and our local team has done a tremendous job in implementing and exploiting the benefits of this new technology”, said Mr Naji Abi Zeid, project manager of FOSTEr in MED in Lebanon and director of the Center of Innovation and Technology of IRI.

“The event marks the end of the implementation phase of the project and the beginning of the monitoring phase of this new technology.”, says Dr. Talal Salam from the Technical and Scientific Committee of the project. “Now that the construction is done and the structure is up and running, the long-term benefits are yet to be revealed.”
Dr Elias Kinnab, from the Technical and Scientific Committee and Info Point Administrator of the Project said that the team will remain at the disposal of SMEs or individuals who would like to follow the results obtained and know more about the use and benefits of the Building Integrated Photovoltaic systems in Lebanon, where the sun is a “well of gold” almost 300 days a year.
Lebanese University building is one of the 5 public buildings which will host the innovative solar photovoltaic plants, testing different technological solutions and architectural integration in the regions involved in the project, the others are: Chamber of Commerce in Alexandria (Egypt); Balqa college - in Aqaba (Jordan); the Centre National de Formation de Formateurs et d’Ingénierie de Formation (CENAFFIF) in Tunis (Tunisia); Regional Agency for the housing construction industry (AREA) in Cagliari (Italy).
