FOSTEr in MED in Tunisia launches the pilot project on Building Integrated Photovoltaic

On Wednesday the 22nd of June 2016, in the framework of FOSTEr in MED project funded by EU ENPI CBC MED Programme, the Chamber of Commerce of Tunis organizes the opening ceremony of the solar pilot at the National Center For Trainers' Training and Training engineering (CENAFFIF) in Tunis

The pilot project will be inaugurated by the Ambassador of EU in Tunisia H.E. Laura Baeza, and the ceremony will be attended by CENAFFIF CEO Mrs. Aicha Souissi Zemni, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis Mr Mounir Mouakhar, the Minister of Vocational Training and employment, the Minister of development of investment and international cooperation, the Minister of Energy and mines and the Minister of commerce.

The pilot is the first Solar Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system in Tunisia: it consists of the installation of PV plants on the flat rooftop of the building, with the multi - functionality of energy production from the sun, and also solar protection as an architectural element of shading. The building has 314 MWh/year electricity energy consumption, and the BIPV pilot power of 20kWp will contribute with about 32 MWh /year of green energy.

Over the past 3 years, FOSTEr in MED has promoted the adoption of innovative solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies in the Mediterranean area through: awareness raising activities dedicated to students, citizens and policy makers; transferring technical know-how to actors of the sector (SMEs, architects and students); identifying best practices in the policy and regulatory field of solar energy; implementing five pilot projects aiming to equip public buildings with innovative solar photovoltaic plants.
The Tunisian Pilot is one of the 5 public buildings which host the innovative solar photovoltaic plants, testing different technological solutions and architectural integration, the selected buildings are: Balqa college - in Aqaba (Jordan); The Lebanese University Campus Hadat in Beirut (Lebanon); Alexandria Chamber of Commerce building in Alexandria (Egypt), the Regional Agency for the housing construction industry (AREA) in Cagliari (Italy) and the National Center For Trainers' Training and Training engineering (CENAFFIF) in Tunis (Tunisia).
