Solar Energy: FOSTEr in MED presents the 5 pilot projects on Building Integrated Photovoltaic in Cagliari

Tuesday, June 28, 2016 - The final conference of Foster MED project funded by the ENPI CBC MED will be held at the auditorium of Engineering and Architecture Department of Cagliari University.

The event will be opened by Antonello Sanna, Director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Architecture (DICAAR) of Cagliari University and Project Scientific Coordinator, Corrado Zoppi President of Engineering and Architecture Faculty, Maria Grazia Piras Industry Councillor, and Luca Palazzo from the Joint Technical Secretariat of ENPI CBC MED Programme.

During the event, project representatives will illustrate the 5 Building Integrated Photovoltaic pilot projects implemented in Cagliari (Italy), Alexandria (Egypt), Beirut (Lebanon), Tunis (Tunisia ), Aqaba (Jordan).
As coordinator for the activity in Sardinia, the Industry Department will present the pilot implemented in the Regional Agency of public housing (AREA): the project consists in the integration of a photovoltaic system of 19.1kWp, which will contribute with 17,6 MWh /Year to the energy needs of the building. In particular, the project provides the replacement of the metallic coating of the towers with photovoltaic modules of different colors and the installation of photovoltaic shading on the facade windows. As practical demonstration of integration, the pilots aim to encourage the use of solar photovoltaic technologies by replicating the activity in new contexts. On this point, in the three years of implementation, the project included awareness campaigns dedicated to citizens, students and local administrators and training courses dedicated to engineers, architects and installers (SMEs).

FOSTEr in MED promotes the adoption of innovative solar technologies in the Mediterranean. In particular Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) refers to PV modules designed to substitute common building elements, considering not only the energy production but including architectural and aesthetic functions, such as waterproofing and shading.
In order to test different technological solutions and architectural ways of integration, 5 BIPV pilot project have been implemented in Cagliari (Italy); Alexandria (Egypt); Beirut (Lebanon); Tunis (Tunisia). Aqaba (Jordan).
